She describes herself as someone who is passionate about the rights of the individual child including their right to receive a quality learning experience and believes that education should be seen as an all encompassing process. One which is holistic, relevant, exciting and encourages children and adults to see the importance of learning in its own right, so enabling them to become effective lifelong learners. She believes that it is important to remember that the learning which takes place in a school is not just about the relationship between teacher and student. Instead, it should be viewed as a team activity with the student, teacher and parents working together, supporting each other and being open and trusting to each other’s point of view. She also believes that, as teachers, we need to remember that every student brings something new to the table. They have different views, experiences and beliefs, they are not 'empty vessels' to be filled but are young people who are ready and willing to explore, to reflect and to put forward views of their own. Denise has many strands including strategic planning, financial planning policy and curriculum development (encompassing both the Malaysian programmes as well as IPC, CIE Checkpoint, IGCSE and A levels), performance tracking, school improvement, as well as leadership.
